NEW DELHI – Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has sharply criticized the central government over Delhi’s worsening air pollution, questioning whether the city should remain India’s capital. Tharoor’s comments follow a recent spike in air pollution and smog, pushing the Air Quality Index (AQI) to hazardous levels.

In a post on social media, Tharoor highlighted Delhi’s ranking as one of the world’s most polluted cities, citing a significant increase in dangerous pollutants. He pointed out that Delhi’s pollution levels are five times higher than Dhaka, Bangladesh, the second most polluted city on the list.

Tharoor expressed concern that despite the city’s consistently poor air quality from November to January, and sub-optimal conditions during the rest of the year, the central government has failed to adequately address the issue. He questioned the continued viability of Delhi as the nation’s capital given these persistent and severe environmental challenges.
