**COIMBATORE, November 19, 2024** – The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Chennai conducted an orientation program for journalists and stakeholders in Coimbatore on Monday. The event emphasized the crucial roles of cybercrime awareness and fact-checking in responsible journalism.

V. Palanichamy, Director General (in-charge) of PIB South Zone, stressed the importance of educating the public about cybercrime and the vital role of fact-checking in ensuring accurate reporting. M. Rajkumar, Protector of Emigrants (PoE) for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, detailed efforts by the Ministry of External Affairs to combat illegal overseas job recruitment schemes. P.A. Arun, inspector of Coimbatore city cybercrime station, explained various cybercrime types and the need for enhanced cybersecurity awareness.

Further presentations covered startup promotion in Tamil Nadu by StartupTN’s vice-president P. Sivakumar, and the significance of fact-checking and combating fake news, highlighted by P. Arun Kumar, Joint Director of PIB Chennai. Additional speakers included D. Suresh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore city, and S. R. Chandrasekharan, Technical Assistant, Central Bureau of Communication, Coimbatore. A handbook for journalists was also released at the program.
