Tue Nov 19 04:35:26 UTC 2024: ## International Men’s Day Celebrated Globally on November 19th

**NEW DELHI, INDIA** – International Men’s Day (IMD) will be observed on November 19th, 2024, across more than 30 countries worldwide. This annual event, mirroring International Women’s Day, aims to recognize the invaluable contributions of men to society, family, and communities. The day also serves as a platform to discuss men’s mental health, highlight the challenges they face, and raise awareness of their rights and respect.

First proposed in 1923, IMD was officially celebrated for the first time in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a professor of history at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. Inspired by his father, Dr. Teelucksingh initiated the day to encourage discussions on men’s issues. The date, November 19th, gradually gained global recognition. India joined the observance in 2007.

The theme for IMD 2024 is “Positive Male Role Models,” celebrating men who contribute positively to their communities. This year’s observance coincides with the IPL 2025 mega auction scheduled for November 24th and 25th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This auction will feature 574 players.
