Nagpur, Maharashtra – November 18, 2024 – Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was injured on Monday evening when his car was attacked by stone-pelters near Belphata on the Jalalkheda Road near Katol. The incident occurred on the final day of campaigning for the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Deshmukh, who was returning from a campaign event, was rushed to Alexis Hospital in Nagpur following the attack. Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police, Harssh Poddar, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Senior officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The Opposition has strongly condemned the attack. Congress CLP leader Balasaheb Thorat expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state via X (formerly Twitter), calling for the immediate arrest of those responsible and urging the Election Commission to intervene to ensure public safety. A large group of MVA workers gathered outside the Katol Police Station demanding the arrest of the attackers.
