**Dallas, TX** – A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 was struck by a bullet Friday night while preparing for takeoff at Dallas Love Field airport. The incident, which occurred around 9:50 p.m. as Flight 2494 was readying for departure to Indianapolis, caused no injuries and the aircraft safely returned to the terminal.
The bullet reportedly hit the plane’s right side, near the cockpit. Southwest Airlines immediately removed the aircraft from service and replaced it with another plane, resulting in a two-hour delay for passengers. The flight ultimately departed as scheduled.
Dallas Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene following reports of a shooting. A preliminary investigation confirmed that gunfire struck the Southwest aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also confirmed the incident. While the airport temporarily closed the runway, operations have since resumed.
Neither Southwest Airlines nor Dallas Love Field offered further details regarding the incident or the ongoing investigation into the source of the gunfire. The airport, located eight miles from downtown Dallas and surrounded by residential areas, was the city’s primary airport before the opening of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in 1974. The investigation is ongoing.
