**CUTTACK, Odisha (OTV)** – Senior BJP leader and former Odisha minister Samir Dey passed away on Monday at the age of 67. Dey, who served as Minister of Higher Education and Urban Development in previous state governments, had been hospitalized at a private hospital in Cuttack since November 1st due to pneumonia and other complications.
According to doctors, Dey was admitted in critical condition and succumbed to multiple organ failure after suffering a cardiac arrest. He had been receiving ventilator support and dialysis.
Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum following the announcement of his death. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced that Dey’s last rites would be conducted with full state honors. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida lauded Dey’s long political career and contributions to the state. Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab also expressed their condolences, highlighting Dey’s significant contributions to Cuttack’s development and higher education.
BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Panda and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), both shared their grief on social media, acknowledging Dey’s political legacy. Cuttack Mayor Subhas Singh remembered Dey’s collaborative spirit despite political differences. Fellow BJP leader Samir Mohanty described Dey as a close associate and a dedicated party worker. Dey represented Cuttack City in the Odisha Legislative Assembly three times (1995, 2000, and 2004).
