Mon Nov 18 22:08:09 UTC 2024: ## Babar Azam Surpasses Kohli in T20I Runs, Despite Pakistan’s Series Loss
**Sydney, Australia:** Pakistan captain Babar Azam has overtaken Virat Kohli to become the second-highest run-scorer in T20 International cricket history, despite his team suffering a 3-0 whitewash against Australia in their recent T20 series.
Azam achieved the milestone in the final T20 match, scoring a 28-ball 41, including four boundaries, to reach a total of 4192 T20I runs. This surpasses Kohli’s 4188 runs, although Kohli is expected to retire from T20I cricket after the 2024 World Cup. Rohit Sharma remains at the top of the list with 4231 runs.
While Azam’s individual achievement is noteworthy, it was overshadowed by Pakistan’s comprehensive defeat in the series. Australia secured a 7-wicket victory in the final match, thanks largely to a blistering half-century by Marcus Stoinis. Despite this setback, Pakistan had previously achieved a historic one-day international series win against Australia.
Azam will have another opportunity to consolidate his position at the upcoming T20 series against Zimbabwe starting December 1st. Given his strong record against Zimbabwe, there is anticipation to see if he can maintain his current form and potentially close the gap on Rohit Sharma.
