Tue Nov 19 02:18:34 UTC 2024: ## NCP Leader Anil Deshmukh Injured in Stone Attack During Son’s Election Campaign

**Nagpur, Maharashtra –** Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was injured in a stone attack on Monday while returning from a campaign event for his son. The incident occurred on the Katol-Jalalkheda Road in Nagpur district as Deshmukh, who is the sitting MLA but not contesting this time, was traveling back from a public meeting supporting his son Salil Deshmukh’s Maharashtra Assembly election campaign.

A stone thrown at Deshmukh’s car shattered a window, striking him on the head. Images from the scene show the former minister bleeding and with glass shards inside the vehicle. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Katol for treatment.

The attackers remain unidentified, and the motive for the attack is unclear. Police are investigating the incident. Deshmukh’s son, Salil, is contesting the election as a Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate.

Deshmukh’s political career has been marked by controversy. He resigned as Home Minister following allegations of extortion, and subsequently faced arrest and imprisonment by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation on money laundering and corruption charges. He was granted bail earlier this year. Recently, he made headlines with allegations against Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of attempting to pressure him into filing false affidavits against MVA leaders. Fadnavis has denied these accusations.
