Tue Nov 19 02:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh Attacked in Stone-Throwing Incident

**Nagpur, Maharashtra –** Former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh was seriously injured in a stone-throwing attack on Monday night, sparking outrage from NCP president Sharad Pawar who accused the ruling BJP of orchestrating the violence.

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM in Katol, after Deshmukh concluded a campaign rally for Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate Salil Deshmukh in Narkhed. Four unidentified youths allegedly hurled stones at Deshmukh’s vehicle, with one striking him in the forehead causing a severe head injury and profuse bleeding. He received initial treatment at a local hospital before being transferred to a private hospital in Nagpur for further care. Doctors advised a CT scan due to swelling around the wound.

Pawar, reacting strongly to the attack, blamed the incident on the ongoing political rivalry between Deshmukh and Maharashtra’s current Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the Katol-Narkhed constituency. He claimed to have heard of potential threats against Deshmukh due to this rivalry and suggested the attack was a direct result of the BJP’s desperation to win the election, alleging they are willing to resort to any means necessary to achieve power. He dismissed claims by the ruling party that the incident was a political stunt to gain sympathy, rhetorically questioning if anyone would attempt to gain sympathy by inflicting a head injury on themselves.

The police are investigating the attack and searching for the perpetrators. While the ruling BJP has denied any involvement, the incident has further escalated political tensions in the state ahead of the ongoing elections.
