Tue Nov 19 02:18:36 UTC 2024: ## Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh Attacked, Injured in Stone-Pelting Incident

**Nagpur, Maharashtra:** Anil Deshmukh, a former Maharashtra Home Minister and leader of the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP, was injured in a stone-pelting incident in Katol on Monday evening, November 18th. The attack occurred as Deshmukh was returning to Nagpur city after campaigning for his son, Salil Deshmukh, who contested the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections.

According to reports, Deshmukh sustained head injuries and bleeding as unidentified assailants targeted his vehicle. He was immediately rushed to a hospital. A photo circulating on social media shows Deshmukh with bloodstains on his clothes. The NCP shared a video of the incident on X (formerly Twitter).

The NCP condemned the attack, blaming the ruling BJP-led government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut echoed these sentiments, questioning the state’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s response and referring to the recent murder of former minister Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai. He described the attack as politically motivated.

Police are investigating the incident, though the perpetrators remain unknown. The attack happened on the last day of campaigning for the Maharashtra elections. Deshmukh had previously defeated BJP candidate Thakur Charan Singh in the 2019 elections in Katol; Singh was the BJP candidate again in this election.
