Sat Nov 16 22:16:15 UTC 2024: **England Clinch T20 Series Win Over West Indies; Bethell Stars in High-Scoring Affair**

ST. LUCIA – England secured a resounding victory in the fifth and final T20I against West Indies, completing a series sweep in a thrilling encounter marked by explosive batting displays. The match, played on the same pitch as the previous day’s contest, saw England post a record-equalling total, thanks largely to the stunning performance of Jacob Bethell.

Bethell, a rising star, smashed a whirlwind 62 off just 22 balls, including four sixes, showcasing impressive power and intelligent shot selection. His innings was praised by commentators and former England players alike, with Alastair Cook highlighting his “intelligent power” and Jason Roy noting his maturity for a 20-year-old. Sam Curran also contributed significantly, hitting a six in the final over.

England’s explosive innings followed a strong start by Phil Salt, who scored a 55 off 35, featuring five fours and four sixes. Jos Buttler also made valuable contributions. Their impressive total was built on a foundation of aggressive batting, particularly against the West Indies spinners, who struggled to contain England’s onslaught. Alastair Cook noted the ease with which England hit through the line of the spin bowling, highlighting a key area of weakness for the West Indies.

While England’s batting dominated, the West Indies’ opening partnership of Shai Hope (34) and Evin Lewis (15) showed some promise early on, but ultimately couldn’t keep pace with England’s blistering run rate. Hope’s aggressive batting, described as if aiming for an IPL contract, helped them to a respectable score, but the West Indies’ bowling failed to restrict England’s powerful batsmen.

The match also marked the T20I debut of England’s John Turner. The England team wore black armbands in memory of long-time Somerset supporter Mary Elworthy, who passed away at age 90.

This victory marks England’s first series win away from home since October 2022 and their second series win in the last six series. Despite some early struggles in the ODI series, England’s performance in the T20Is demonstrated their dominance in the shorter format.
