**Mumbai, India** – Union Minister Nitin Gadkari dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s criticisms, stating that the public should not take his remarks seriously. In an interview with PTI, Gadkari attributed the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s less-than-stellar performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections to widespread voter confusion fueled by opposition narratives. He specifically cited false claims that a BJP victory would lead to constitutional amendments.
Gadkari expressed confidence that voters now recognize the opposition’s campaign as deceitful and will support the Mahayuti in the upcoming Maharashtra state assembly elections in November. He emphasized the alliance’s focus on development, downplaying internal disagreements highlighted by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s opposition to a controversial statement made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Gadkari explained the differences as stemming from the alliance’s diverse party membership and media misinterpretations.
He further dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s call for a caste census, emphasizing the need to prioritize the welfare of all citizens irrespective of caste or religion. Gadkari also confirmed he has no intention of seeking the BJP presidency again.
