**Kolkata, West Bengal –** Kolkata Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with Friday’s attempted murder of Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor Sushanta Ghosh. A taxi driver, identified as Ahmed, was taken into custody Saturday following the interrogation of the first suspect, Yuvraj Singh, who allegedly attempted to shoot Ghosh at close range in the Kasba area.
Police say Ahmed drove Singh and an associate, Iqbal, from Howrah station to the Port area on Thursday night. Singh, who hails from Vaishali, Bihar, was apprehended by locals after his attempt to shoot Ghosh failed due to a malfunctioning firearm. No injuries were sustained in the incident.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited the crime scene Saturday morning and confirmed the arrests. While he declined to comment further on the ongoing investigation, he assured the public that further action would be taken. Ghosh’s security has been increased following the attack. The investigation is ongoing.
