Sun Nov 17 16:08:47 UTC 2024: ## Manipur’s NPP Withdraws Support From BJP Government Amidst Ongoing Violence

**Imphal, Manipur:** The National People’s Party (NPP) has withdrawn its support from the BJP-led government in Manipur, citing the state government’s failure to quell the ongoing ethnic violence. The decision, announced today, deals a blow to the BJP, although it does not threaten the government’s stability.

In a letter to BJP national president J.P. Nadda, the NPP stated that Chief Minister Biren Singh’s leadership has been ineffective in addressing the crisis. They expressed a lack of confidence in the government’s ability to restore normalcy and blamed the BJP government for the prolonged unrest.

While the NPP’s withdrawal is a significant political development, the BJP retains a comfortable majority in the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly with 37 seats. Support from other parties, including the Janata Dal (United) and the Naga People’s Front, ensures the BJP government’s continued power.

The move comes amidst heightened concern over the escalating violence in Manipur. Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting today in Delhi to review the security situation and is scheduled to hold further discussions tomorrow. The ongoing violence has prompted widespread condemnation and calls for a stronger government response. The NPP’s action underscores the growing pressure on the BJP to effectively address the crisis and restore peace to the state.
