**NEW DELHI, November 16, 2024** – Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla lauded the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) for its embrace of modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, during the inauguration of the fourth Audit Diwas on Saturday. Birla emphasized that this technological advancement has significantly strengthened audit processes and boosted transparency in public financial management.
Birla highlighted the CAG’s crucial role in overseeing public funds and its contribution to socio-economic development through audits of local governance and social programs. He congratulated the CAG on its recent achievements, including assuming the chairmanship of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for 2024-27 and successfully hosting the 16th ASOSAI Assembly. He noted the growing international recognition of India’s auditing practices, with over 50 countries sending delegations to study them.
The Speaker also underscored the vital role of parliamentary committees, including those chaired by opposition members, in scrutinizing audit reports and ensuring financial accountability. He expressed gratitude to CAG Girish Chandra Murmu and acknowledged the contributions of previous CAGs and staff.
CAG Murmu himself outlined the institution’s progress, emphasizing initiatives aimed at improving public financial management and accountability. He further highlighted the CAG’s prominent leadership role in global audit forums, including its position as an external auditor for organizations such as the World Health Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
