JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA – The Red Sea Film Festival announced a dazzling lineup for its fourth edition, showcasing 120 films from 81 countries from December 5th to 14th. The festival, returning to Jeddah’s historic Al Balad district, will open with Karim Shenawy’s “The Tale of Daye’s Family,” and close with Michael Gracey’s “Better Man,” a Robbie Williams biopic featuring the pop star as a chimpanzee.
The festival boasts a significant number of gala screenings featuring high-profile talent. Johnny Depp’s “Modi” will receive a gala screening, alongside Peter Chelsom’s “A Sudden Case of Christmas” (starring Danny DeVito), Pablo Larrain’s “Maria” (starring Angelina Jolie), Mehdi Idir’s “Monsieur Aznavour,” and Thierry Teston and Lisa Azuelos’ “My Way.” Additionally, “We Live in Time” (Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield), and Anderson .Paak’s musical “K-Pops!” will also grace the screen.
Academy Award winner Viola Davis and Egyptian superstar Mona Zaki will be honored at the festival. Davis will also attend representing her production company, JVL Media, which will participate in the festival’s industry events alongside 75 companies from 18 countries. The industry talks program is collaborating with CAA Media Finance for the first time.
The festival’s main competition will feature 15 films from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, including several already generating buzz on the international circuit. These include MENA premieres of films such as Mahdi Fleifel’s “To a Land Unknown” and Roya Sadat’s “Sima’s Song.”
The Red Sea Film Festival promises a spectacular event, with a strong emphasis on both established and emerging talent from around the globe. The full jury and “In Conversations” lineup are yet to be announced.
