**JHANSI, INDIA** – The devastating fire that engulfed the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) ward at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi on November 17th has been lauded as a testament to the bravery of the medical staff. While the incident shocked the nation, the focus has now shifted to the heroic actions of the junior doctors in the Pediatric department who risked their own lives to save the infants.

According to Local 18, upon receiving the fire alarm, junior doctors immediately rushed to the ward. Dr. Himanshu, one of the first responders, suffered from smoke inhalation and required oxygen support after rescuing multiple children. Other doctors also fell ill from smoke inhalation while evacuating over 40 infants. Doctors worked tirelessly for over 24 hours, ensuring the safety of the children.

District Magistrate Avinash Kumar confirmed that 49 infants were in the ward at the time of the incident. 38 have been safely accounted for, and the bodies of the deceased infants have been released to their families. Three identities are still being confirmed, with information on one infant still being gathered. While most children escaped without significant burns, three remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment. All other children are reported to be stable. Authorities have also successfully located parents of all infants.

The incident has prompted widespread praise for the selflessness and bravery demonstrated by the medical staff who prioritized the lives of the infants in the face of extreme danger.
