Sun Nov 17 02:14:44 UTC 2024: ## NZC Women’s Domestic Cricket Season Kicks Off with Record on the Line

**Wellington, Mt Maunganui, and Rangiora, New Zealand –** The 2024/25 New Zealand Cricket Women’s domestic summer is underway, with the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield getting underway this weekend across three venues. Weather permitting, six one-day matches will mark the start of the season.

Several teams boast new captains. Rebecca Burns will lead the Wellington Blaze, facing off against the Central Hinds, now captained by Mikaela Greig. Jess Watkin takes the reins for Northern Districts, while the Otago Sparks and Canterbury Magicians begin their season with a derby clash.

The Canterbury Magicians’ Frankie Mackay is on the cusp of a historic achievement. She needs just three runs to surpass Amy Satterthwaite’s New Zealand domestic record for most List A runs scored for a single team (5,147). This would be a record for both men’s and women’s cricket.

Several other notable player changes include the debut of uncapped Central Hinds bowler Grace Foreman, and the potential debuts for Canterbury’s Emma Irwin and Libby Stead and Otago Sparks’ Anna Browning and Skye Bowden, who all previously played for other teams.

All matches are free to attend, with livestreams available on NZC YouTube, nzc.nz scorecards, and the NZC app. The season culminates in the Grand Final in Dunedin on March 1st, 2025.
