**ERODE, Tamil Nadu (November 17, 2024)** – Five men were arrested on Saturday for illegally hunting mynas and herons in the Anthiyur Forest Range of Erode district. Forest officials, patrolling the Athani East Beat, apprehended M. Sabari (25), S. Meyyarasu (23), M. Dinesh (24), S. Karthik (24), and T. Thangavel (20) near a canal in Kavundappadi-Avarankattur Colony. The group was caught red-handed with an air rifle.
A wildlife offence case has been registered against the accused under relevant forest and wildlife protection laws. Each individual was fined ₹10,000, totaling ₹50,000 in fines levied by the District Forest Officer. The arrests were made during a patrol led by Assistant Forest Ranger D. Manivannan and Range Officer R. Murugesan.
