**Los Angeles, CA** – Disney announced a significant expansion of its streaming offerings, integrating ESPN content into Disney+ and paving the way for a standalone ESPN streaming service. Starting December 4th, US Disney+ subscribers will gain access to an ESPN tile, offering select live sports, shows, series, and documentaries, even without an ESPN+ subscription. This move is designed to entice Disney+ users with sports content ahead of the launch of a premium ESPN streaming service.
The upcoming standalone ESPN “Flagship” service, slated for early fall 2025, will offer a comprehensive suite of ESPN and ESPN+ content within Disney+. While pricing remains unannounced, Disney promises an enhanced experience with innovative digital features including AI-personalized “SportsCenter” highlights, fantasy sports integrations, enhanced statistics, betting features, and e-commerce capabilities. The company expects these features to increase engagement, reduce churn, and boost advertising potential.
Currently, ESPN+ costs $11.99 per month or $119.99 per year. Disney+ subscribers who bundle with ESPN+ will already have full access to all of ESPN+’s sports content through this tile, mirroring the current Hulu integration. Disney executives stated that this strategy reflects the growing trend of younger audiences viewing ESPN as a digital-first brand and aims to capitalize on the increasing reliance on digital platforms for sports news and content.
