Sun Nov 17 15:42:59 UTC 2024: ## NPP Withdraws Support from Manipur BJP Government Amidst Violence

**Imphal, Manipur –** The National People’s Party (NPP), led by Conrad Sangma, has withdrawn its support from the BJP-led government in Manipur, citing the state government’s failure to control the ongoing ethnic violence. In a letter to BJP national president JP Nadda, the NPP expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and the loss of innocent lives. The decision, effective immediately, comes amidst continued unrest and protests following the recent discovery of the bodies of women and children.

While the NPP’s withdrawal is a significant blow, the BJP government is expected to remain stable. With 37 seats of its own and the support of several other parties and independent MLAs, the BJP retains a comfortable majority in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. The BJP currently holds a majority well above the halfway mark of 31 seats. The state has been embroiled in conflict between the Kuki and Meitei communities since May 2022.
