**HYDERABAD, November 17, 2024** – Tamil actress Kasthuri was arrested in Hyderabad late Saturday by a Greater Chennai Police special team. She was wanted for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Telugu-speaking community during a November 3rd protest in Chennai.
The arrest, which took place at her Narsingi flat around 8:30 pm, follows a complaint filed by the All India Telugu Federation alleging defamation of Telugu-speaking women. The complaint cited a video of Kasthuri’s speech, circulated online, which contained remarks deemed offensive towards the origins of certain Telugu communities in Tamil Nadu.
Kasthuri faces charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to inciting riots, promoting enmity between groups, and causing public mischief. A Madras High Court previously dismissed her anticipatory bail plea in a separate case involving similar charges.
A Greater Chennai Police officer confirmed the arrest and stated that Kasthuri will be produced in a local court before being transported to Chennai. The Cyberabad police assisted in the operation.
