**HYDERABAD, November 16, 2024** – Actress Kasthuri Shankar was arrested in Hyderabad on Saturday evening by a special team from Chennai’s Egmore police station. The arrest stems from a controversial speech she delivered in Chennai on November 3rd, which allegedly contained hate speech targeting the Telugu community.
Ms. Shankar was booked under sections 191 and 192 of the BNS Act of 2023. Following the Madras High Court’s denial of her anticipatory bail application – citing an insufficient apology – a special team was dispatched to Hyderabad, where she was apprehended at her Narsingi residence around 8:30 pm. She is currently being transported to Chennai on a transit warrant.
While Ms. Shankar maintains her statements were misinterpreted and denies any intent to incite hatred, the Chennai police investigation concluded otherwise, leading to her arrest.
