**NELLORE, Andhra Pradesh (November 16, 2024)** – Congress leader and former Union minister Chinta Mohan has criticized the Andhra Pradesh government’s plan for the new capital city, Amaravati, calling the proposed 50,000-acre land acquisition excessive. Mohan argued that 5,000 acres would suffice, citing the land area of major world capitals like Delhi and New York City as examples. He expressed concerns about the financial burden of the project, particularly the 9% interest on a ₹11,000 crore loan from HUDCO.

Mohan urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to prioritize other infrastructure projects, such as the Godavari-Pennar river interlinking project, the Duggarajapatnam port, and the BHEL factory at Mannavaram. He highlighted the potential job creation (50,000 jobs) from the Duggarajapatnam port, alleging that the Naidu government halted its Congress-initiated construction.
