**CHENNAI, INDIA** – A major feud has erupted between prominent South Indian actors Nayanthara and Dhanush, sparked by a three-second clip in Nayanthara’s upcoming Netflix documentary, “Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale.” Dhanush, who produced the 2015 film “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan,” has issued a ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) legal notice to the documentary’s producers, alleging copyright infringement due to the inclusion of footage from his film.
Nayanthara responded with a scathing three-page open letter posted on her Instagram account, accusing Dhanush of an “all-time low” and characterizing his demand as exorbitant for such a brief, seemingly innocuous clip. She claims the documentary team repeatedly sought permission to use the footage and even offered alternatives, such as omitting specific songs and visual cuts. When Dhanush refused, they proceeded with the documentary in its current form.
Nayanthara’s letter further alleges that Dhanush’s actions stem from lingering resentment over the success of “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan,” a film she starred in opposite Vijay Sethupathi and which was written and directed by her husband, Vignesh Shivan. She suggests Dhanush’s public displays of positivity are a facade, contrasting them with his actions in this dispute. She pointedly urged him to watch the documentary, emphasizing the importance of spreading love.
Vignesh Shivan, Nayanthara’s husband, has also weighed in, sharing an old video of Dhanush preaching positivity and urging against hatred.
Dhanush has yet to publicly respond to Nayanthara’s letter. The documentary is scheduled for release on November 18th, and the legal battle adds a dramatic layer to its anticipated premiere. The dispute highlights the intense rivalries and sensitivities within the competitive South Indian film industry.
