Sun Nov 17 00:51:54 UTC 2024: ## Bhimavaram SHGs Boost Sales with Online Marketplace

**Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh:** Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Bhimavaram are leveraging technology to expand their businesses. For years, one group has produced popular prawn pickles, but struggled to attract new customers despite repeat business. Another group crafts bangles and toys. Both groups, facing similar challenges in reaching wider markets, have found a solution through the MyStore app, an initiative of MEPMA (Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas).

By uploading photos and prices of their products onto the MyStore app, an online platform facilitated by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), both SHGs have seen a significant increase in sales. Customers are now placing orders online, leading to business expansion and increased income.

Another family, the Phaniki family, who migrated from Rajasthan 30 years ago and established a toy-making business near Palakol railway station, are also benefitting from the initiative. They have also listed their products on MyStore, hoping to reach a wider customer base.

The MyStore app offers several advantages, including prompt online payments. Funds are held by the app administrators until delivery is confirmed, ensuring secure transactions for both buyers and sellers. The app charges a low commission of only 6%, significantly lower than other online platforms.

MEPMA officials are optimistic that this initiative will benefit around 1.74 lakh people across the region by providing additional income streams. Currently, 140 types of products from the joint district have been listed on the app, with another 115 awaiting approval. In Eluru district alone, 210 products have already received approval. The app has facilitated the sale of 60 different products in West Godavari district since its launch. MEPMA’s in-charge PD Priyamvada noted a significant increase in sales since the online platform was introduced.
