Sat Nov 16 22:55:01 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Elections: All India Personal Law Board Head’s Endorsement Sparks ‘Vote Jihad’ Accusations

**Mumbai, India** – The Maharashtra Assembly elections have taken a fiery turn following All India Personal Law Board chief Sajjad Nomani’s public endorsement of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. Nomani announced his support in a YouTube video, sparking outrage from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BJP leaders have accused Nomani of engaging in “vote Jihad,” alleging that the endorsement is an attempt to manipulate the Muslim vote bank. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directly addressed the video during a campaign rally in Khadavasa, playing excerpts and criticizing the MVA for allegedly courting the Muslim community for votes.

Fadnavis characterized the situation as a “religious war for votes,” claiming that the MVA’s aim extends beyond Maharashtra’s state government to destabilize the BJP’s rule in Delhi. He urged voters to support the BJP to prevent what he called the MVA’s “nefarious intentions.”

Nomani’s 16-minute video urged the Muslim community to vote strategically, arguing that a BJP defeat in Maharashtra would weaken the party’s grip on power in Delhi. He explicitly linked the Maharashtra elections to the political stability of the national government.

Meanwhile, BJP’s campaign has also seen participation from actress Kangana Ranaut, who addressed a rally in Nagpur, criticizing the MVA government and accusing it of destroying religious harmony and law and order.

The accusations and counter-accusations highlight the increasingly polarized political atmosphere in the state as the elections approach. The BJP’s framing of the issue as “vote Jihad” is expected to dominate the discourse in the coming days.
