Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh – A two-member investigation committee has concluded its inquiry into the recent fire incident at the Rani Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi. The report, according to sources, attributes the fire to a short circuit in the electrical switchboard. Sparks ignited nearby equipment and plastic coverings, quickly spreading through the ward.

While a nurse suffered burns attempting to extinguish the flames, the fire was eventually brought under control by hospital staff using four fire extinguishers. The fire brigade arrived within eight minutes of receiving the alert, though the intensity of the blaze hampered quick containment.

The investigation, led by Jhansi Commissioner Vipul Dubey and DIG Kalanidhi Nethani, found no evidence of sabotage or foul play. The lack of a sprinkler system in the NICU ward was noted, attributed to the vulnerability of newborns to water. While six nurses, two female doctors, and other staff were present at the time, all escaped injury. Further investigation will determine if an equipment overload contributed to the short circuit.

No FIR has been filed, and the incident is being treated as accidental. However, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a serious view of the incident and a committee headed by the DGME (Director General Medical Education) is conducting a thorough review to determine why safety standards were not met and to recommend preventative measures for future incidents.
