Sat Nov 16 09:26:21 IST 2024: ## Retired Police Officer, Father of Actress Disha Patani, Defrauded of Rs 25 Lakh
**Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh:** Jagdish Singh Patani, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police and father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, has filed a police complaint alleging he was defrauded of Rs 25 lakh by a group of five individuals. The alleged con artists promised Mr. Patani a high-ranking position within a government commission.
An FIR was registered at Bareilly Kotwali police station on Friday. The accused, identified as Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash, Preeti Garg, and an unidentified individual, are facing charges of cheating, criminal intimidation, and extortion. Police are actively pursuing their arrest.
According to the complaint, Mr. Patani was introduced to the group through an acquaintance, Shivendra Pratap Singh. The accused allegedly leveraged their purported political connections to convince Mr. Patani they could secure him a prestigious position such as chairman or vice-chairman of a government commission. They subsequently received Rs 25 lakh – Rs 5 lakh in cash and Rs 20 lakh through bank transfers – from the retired officer.
When Mr. Patani saw no progress after three months and demanded a refund, the group allegedly resorted to threats. To further bolster their claims, the accused reportedly introduced an accomplice posing as an “officer on special duty.” Mr. Patani’s subsequent police report led to the filing of the FIR. Police investigations are ongoing.
