Sat Nov 16 17:15:45 UTC 2024: ## Underdog “The Sabarmati Report” Surpasses Expectations at Box Office

**Mumbai, India** – Despite releasing in the shadow of the much-hyped but critically panned “Kanguva,” the Vikrant Massey-starrer “The Sabarmati Report” has exceeded expectations, grossing over ₹1.98 crore in its opening weekend. The film, directed by Dheeraj Sarna and based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident, earned ₹1.25 crore on its opening day, surpassing several recent releases including “Ulajh,” “Main Atal Hoon,” and “Ruslaan.”

The film’s strong opening day performance, with an occupancy rate peaking at 25.58% during night shows, is noteworthy given its release following the high-profile but underperforming “Kanguva.” While the film has faced criticism of being a propaganda film, its initial box office success suggests that it has found an audience. However, its weekend gross pales in comparison to the massive success of another recent film described as propaganda, “The Kerala Story,” which earned ₹8.03 crore on its opening day.

Despite past box office successes of Vikrant Massey’s other films being quite variable, ranging from “Chhapaak’s” ₹4.77 crore opening day to “Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’s” meager ₹15 lakh, “The Sabarmati Report” demonstrates a positive start for the actor. The film, a joint production of Balaji Motion Pictures and Vikir Films Production, distributed by Zee Studios, continues to play in theaters.
