Sat Nov 16 16:30:00 IST 2024: ## Scandinavian Airlines Flight Diverted to Copenhagen After Severe Turbulence Over Greenland

**Copenhagen, Denmark** – A Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight from Copenhagen to Miami made an emergency return to Copenhagen on Thursday after encountering severe turbulence over Greenland. Flight SK957, carrying 254 passengers, experienced the turbulence which resulted in items being thrown around the cabin. While no serious injuries were reported, one passenger described a chaotic scene where a fellow passenger, unbuckled at the time, was thrown to the ceiling before falling to the floor.

The aircraft, according to SAS, was diverted to Copenhagen due to a lack of necessary inspection facilities in Miami. Post-turbulence protocol mandates a thorough inspection, and diverting to Copenhagen ensured quicker access to hangar space and qualified technicians. The airline stated that continuing to Miami risked an extended grounding period and subsequent flight cancellations.

Passengers were met by a special assistance team upon landing in Copenhagen, provided with hotel accommodations, and rebooked onto other flights. SAS emphasized that all passengers are now en route to their final destination.

While turbulence-related injuries are rare, the incident highlights the potential dangers of severe air turbulence. The Federal Aviation Administration cites turbulence as the leading cause of non-fatal injuries to passengers and crew on commercial airlines.
