**Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu – November 16, 2024** – A government-aided higher secondary school in Tiruvannamalai is under investigation following allegations of sexual harassment against students by school authorities. The District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), K. Selvi, filed a formal complaint with the All Women Police Station (AWPS) on November 11th.
The complaint stems from a two-day awareness program conducted at the school on November 7th and 8th, focusing on child rights and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. During separate sessions for boys and girls, several female students from classes IX-XII reported incidents of sexual harassment. These students submitted written complaints identifying teachers as the alleged perpetrators.
The DCPO’s office confirmed that these reports are part of an average of 12-13 child abuse cases registered monthly. Following the awareness program, the DCPO informed Tiruvannamalai Collector D. Bhaskara Pandian, leading to the formal police complaint.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) V. Sathish Kumar stated that the investigation is underway, including recording statements from the affected students. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of this investigation.
