Sat Nov 16 11:24:28 IST 2024: ## Modi’s Foreign Trip Sparks Congress Criticism Amidst Manipur Crisis

**New Delhi, November 16, 2024** – The Congress party has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming three-nation tour, beginning Saturday, as a politically motivated trip that prioritizes international image-building over addressing domestic concerns. The tour will include the G20 Summit in Brazil, followed by visits to Nigeria and Guyana.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the Prime Minister of using foreign visits to gain domestic political points rather than demonstrating statesmanship. He pointedly questioned Modi’s continued refusal to visit Manipur, a state ravaged by ethnic violence since May 2023.

“For the next 3 days, we will be spared the Prime Minister’s election campaign,” Ramesh stated, adding that Modi’s avoidance of Manipur is “beyond understanding.” He emphasized the suffering of the Manipuri people and their need for a visit from their Prime Minister.

The Congress has repeatedly attacked Modi’s handling of the Manipur crisis, where clashes between Meitei and Kuki communities have resulted in over 200 deaths. This latest criticism highlights the ongoing political tension surrounding the situation and the government’s response.
