**Kozhikode, India – November 16, 2024** – The OISCA International Global Summit 2024, held at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), concluded today with the release of the Calicut Declaration. The declaration, born from a seminar on ‘Environment and Climate Sustainability,’ underscores the participants’ shared responsibility to protect the Earth’s ecosystems for present and future generations.

Over 400 delegates from India, Japan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Taiwan attended the summit. Participants acknowledged the urgent need for transformative action to combat climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation, pledging their commitment to sustainable practices, innovative solutions, and enhanced global cooperation.

Kerala High Court Justice Devan Ramachandran, who inaugurated the summit, urged individuals to shift their perspectives on natural resources, emphasizing their importance beyond human consumption for maintaining environmental balance. He cited the recent ban on plastic around Sabarimala as an example of the judiciary’s active role in environmental protection.

IIMK Director Debashis Chatterjee highlighted the summit’s alignment with the institute’s mission of environmental stewardship and global collaboration. OISCA International president Etsuko Nakano stressed the importance of cooperative action in addressing environmental and climate sustainability challenges, reflecting on the organization’s six-decade history of environmental advocacy.

K. Jayakumar, founder president of OISCA South India Chapter and former Kerala Chief Secretary, delivered a keynote address emphasizing environmental protection and the propagation of ecological values. He urged young attendees to adopt sustainable lifestyles to counter the detrimental effects of rampant consumerism on the natural world. OISCA International vice-president Yasuki Nagaishi and secretary general Fumio Kitsuki also addressed the gathering.
