**Chamarajanagar, Karnataka, November 16, 2024** – State Commissioner for Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Das Suryavanshi, has ordered Chamarajanagar district officials to ensure direct admission for disabled children into state-run residential schools. During a Saturday review of the Persons with Disabilities Act’s implementation, Suryavanshi emphasized the legal provision for direct admission and the mandatory 20-25% reservation of seats for disabled students.
The commissioner also mandated the provision of assistive devices, including Braille books for visually impaired children. Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag reported on existing programs for visually impaired students, including three-month training initiatives, and pledged further improvements in the quality of education for all disabled children.
Suryavanshi stressed the crucial role of the Department of Health in early detection of health issues among disabled individuals. He highlighted the numerous daily challenges faced by disabled persons and urged officials to ensure accessibility to government services, including ramps and wheelchairs in government offices.
