Fri Nov 15 19:15:43 UTC 2024: **Nepal Qualifies for U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with Thrilling Victory**
**Ajman, UAE** – Nepal secured a dramatic victory over the UAE in the final of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2024, earning their place in the 2025 World Cup in Malaysia. Despite losing to the UAE earlier in the tournament and needing a superior run rate to qualify, Nepal restricted the UAE to a paltry 83/9 before chasing down the target in just 14.4 overs, winning by eight wickets.
Krishma Gurung starred with the ball, taking four wickets for 17 runs, while Riya Sharma and Seemana KC each claimed two. Sana Praveen’s unbeaten 35 and Sony Pakhrin’s 13* guided Nepal to victory.
The UAE, after winning the toss and electing to bat, struggled against Nepal’s disciplined bowling. Samaira Dharnidharka top-scored with 31, but no other batter managed to reach 20.
Nepal’s qualification was particularly impressive given their earlier loss to the UAE. Both teams ended the tournament with 10 points, but Nepal’s superior net run rate secured them the top spot and a place in Group D alongside Australia, Bangladesh, and Scotland. The 2025 World Cup will feature sixteen teams divided into four groups. Krishma Gurung was named Player of the Match, and Puja Mahato was named Player of the Series.
In other matches, Thailand recorded a resounding 104-run victory over Kuwait, with Arrikan Phuengkho (84*) and Nattharika Thokoi (59*) leading their team to 165/1. Phuengkho was named Player of the Match for her impressive knock.
