**Hyderabad, November 16, 2024** – The Telangana BJP has launched a campaign, “Musi Nidra,” to protest the planned demolitions of homes along the Musi river as part of a controversial ₹1.5 lakh crore riverfront development project. Union Minister and BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of prioritizing the demolition of poor residents’ homes over their rehabilitation.
Reddy stated that the BJP supports the riverfront project in principle but vehemently opposes the displacement of impoverished residents without adequate compensation or relocation plans. He criticized the lack of transparency regarding the project’s funding and planning, alleging that it serves primarily as a pretext for real estate interests. He further accused the state government of neglecting crucial issues like drainage problems contributing to river pollution.
The “Musi Nidra” campaign involves a sleepover with affected residents to demonstrate solidarity and alleviate their fears. Several senior BJP leaders participated in the event, visiting affected areas and interacting with residents who are reportedly living in fear of imminent demolitions. Reddy pledged the BJP’s continued support to the displaced, assuring them that the party will fight against forced evictions in the name of development. The BJP has been holding protests for the past four months to raise awareness about the issue.
