Fri Nov 15 17:37:33 UTC 2024: ## Gujarat Shaken by 4.2 Magnitude Earthquake

**Ahmedabad, Gujarat:** A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Mehsana, Gujarat late Friday night, causing panic among residents. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported the tremor at 10:15 PM IST. The epicenter was approximately 10 kilometers below the surface in Mehsana.

The earthquake’s tremors were felt not only in Mehsana but also in parts of Ahmedabad, including Wadaj, Ankuran, and New Wadaj, causing widespread alarm. The sudden shaking at night startled many residents, reminding some of the region’s more significant seismic events from the past. Local authorities are reportedly monitoring the situation.

This is the second earthquake to hit Gujarat in recent weeks. A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Kutch district on October 17th, 2024, but caused no reported damage. The NCS uses the Richter scale to measure earthquake magnitude; the scale was developed by Charles Richter and Beno Gutenberg in 1935 to quantify both the intensity and destructive potential of earthquakes. A magnitude 4.0-4.9 earthquake can cause damage such as broken windows and falling picture frames.
