**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, November 16, 2024** – The Department of English at Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, in collaboration with the Gender Justice Forum, hosted a screening of the award-winning documentary *Saving Walden’s World* on Friday. The event, part of the college’s undergraduate program, showcased filmmaker and activist Jim Merkel’s work exploring the intersection of women’s empowerment, organic farming, and community-driven sustainability.
The documentary follows Merkel’s personal transformation from military subcontractor to advocate for non-capitalist solutions, highlighting examples from Kerala, Cuba, and Slovenia where women-led communities are building sustainable and thriving societies outside conventional capitalist models.
Merkel participated in a post-screening Q&A with students, emphasizing the communities’ success through empowerment, collaboration, and sustainable practices.
