**Mumbai, November 16, 2024** – In a shocking incident highlighting the rise of financial crimes in India, the father of renowned Bollywood actress Disha Patani, Jagdish Singh Patani, has been defrauded of ₹25 lakh (approximately $300,000 USD). Patani, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, was allegedly promised a senior government position in exchange for the money.
According to police reports, several individuals approached Patani, promising him a lucrative position as either Chairman, Vice Chairman, or another senior government role within a commission. They convinced him to pay ₹25 lakh in installments, with Patani initially transferring ₹5 lakh in cash and a further ₹20 lakh through three separate bank transfers.
After completing the payment, the perpetrators disappeared, prompting Patani to file a complaint with the police. An FIR (First Information Report) has been registered against five individuals: Shivendra Pratap Singh, Divakar Garg, Acharya Jayprakash, Preeti Garg, and an unidentified individual, under charges of fraud, criminal intimidation, and theft.
The police have launched an investigation and are currently searching for the accused.
