**Atlanta, GA** – A special preview of the new docuseries “Call Me Ted” was held at the Atlanta History Center, celebrating the life and legacy of media mogul Ted Turner as he approaches his 86th birthday. The six-part series, airing on Max, explores Turner’s life from his childhood to his philanthropic endeavors, highlighting the founding of CNN and his impact on the media landscape.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, CNN Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson, civil rights icon Andrew Young, and legendary broadcaster Xernona Clayton. Turner himself appeared briefly via Zoom, surrounded by family.
Zaslav praised Turner, stating that “many of us… owe our careers to him,” emphasizing Turner’s visionary leadership and CNN’s groundbreaking 24-hour news coverage of the 1991 Gulf War. He described Turner as having “changed the world.”
The docuseries’ creators, Keith Clarke and Joni Levin, also spoke at the event. Levin explained the series’ goal of providing a comprehensive look at Turner’s life, a story she felt had yet to be fully told. Clayton, the first Black woman corporate executive at TBS, appointed by Turner in the 1980s, shared her personal admiration for him, praising his honesty and willingness to help those in need. She highlighted his crucial support for the Trumpet Awards.
“Call Me Ted” features interviews with Turner himself, along with his children and former wife Jane Fonda, offering an intimate look at the life of this influential figure. The series promises to reveal both the triumphs and the complexities of Turner’s remarkable journey.
