Sat Nov 16 20:14:02 IST 2024: ## Bollywood Actor’s Father Duped of Rs 25 Lakh in Government Job Scam
**Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh –** The father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdish Singh Patani, has fallen victim to a sophisticated con, losing Rs 25 lakh (approximately $300,000 USD) to a group of alleged scammers. Police confirmed on Friday that an FIR has been filed against five individuals – Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash, Preeti Garg, and an unidentified person – on charges of cheating, criminal intimidation, and extortion.
According to the police complaint, Patani was approached by an acquaintance, Shivendra Pratap Singh, who introduced him to a group claiming strong political connections. They allegedly promised Patani a high-ranking position, such as chairman or vice-chairman, in a government commission. To secure the position, Patani was allegedly persuaded to pay Rs 25 lakh – Rs 5 lakh in cash and Rs 20 lakh via bank transfers.
After three months with no progress, and facing threats when he demanded a refund, Patani reported the incident to the police. The accused allegedly used an accomplice posing as a government official to further bolster their fraudulent claims.
The accused are currently at large, but police have launched an investigation and are working to apprehend them. The investigation is ongoing.
