**MUMBAI, INDIA** – The recently released Netflix miniseries “Freedom at Midnight,” a production by Emmay Entertainment (Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani) in association with StudioNext, has captivated audiences with its meticulous recreation of India’s struggle for independence. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the series, based on the book by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre, premiered on November 15th.
The series boasts a star-studded cast including Siddhanth Gupta as Jawaharlal Nehru, Siraj Vora as Mahatma Gandhi, Rajendra Chawla as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Arif Zakaria as Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and several others portraying key historical figures.
Director Nikkhil Advani revealed fascinating insights into the production’s challenges in accurately depicting this pivotal moment in Indian history. He highlighted the significant undertaking of recreating key locations such as Rashtrapati Bhavan (then Viceroy’s House). Denied permission to film at the actual location, the production team painstakingly constructed 86 sets to achieve the necessary historical accuracy.
Advani emphasized the extensive pre-production work, stating that while most films require 16 weeks of preparation, “Freedom at Midnight” demanded a year to ensure authenticity. Every detail, from the actors’ costumes to the set designs, was meticulously researched to immerse viewers in the atmosphere of 1947 India.
The miniseries is praised for its attention to historical detail and its ability to vividly portray the turbulent events surrounding India’s independence. The significant effort invested in set construction and costume design reflects the creators’ commitment to accurately presenting this crucial chapter in Indian history.
