Sat Nov 16 06:25:18 IST 2024: ## India Refuses to Send Cricket Team to Pakistan for 2025 Champions Trophy, Citing Security Concerns

**ISLAMABAD/MUMBAI** – The 2025 Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan, is facing a major hurdle following the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) refusal to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan. The BCCI has cited serious security concerns as the primary reason for its decision, citing a rise in terrorist attacks within the country.

In a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the BCCI detailed its concerns, providing documentation highlighting the increased threat of cross-border terrorism and the potential risk to the Indian team. While acknowledging the generally welcoming nature of the Pakistani populace, the BCCI argued that the team would remain a high-profile target for terrorist organizations, referencing the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team as a precedent. The letter also listed numerous terrorist incidents in Pakistan over the past year. India’s last tour of Pakistan was in 2006.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has responded by stating that it will not host the tournament under a hybrid model (partially in another country), and that if India does not participate, the entire tournament will be held in Pakistan as planned.

This impasse leaves the ICC with three difficult options: relocating the Champions Trophy to another country (potentially resulting in the PCB withdrawing), adopting a hybrid model where some matches are played in the UAE, or postponing the tournament indefinitely – a decision that would result in significant financial losses for both the ICC and PCB, given the tournament’s anticipated revenue. The ICC is now facing the challenge of resolving this critical issue before the tournament’s scheduled start.
