**Chennai, India** – A legal battle has erupted between two of South India’s biggest stars, Nayanthara and Dhanush. Dhanush, a prominent actor and producer, has issued a legal notice to Nayanthara demanding ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) for the unauthorized use of a three-second clip from his song “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan” in her Netflix documentary, “Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.”
The documentary, released on November 18th, features the brief snippet of the song, which Dhanush produced. He alleges copyright infringement. Nayanthara, however, has strongly refuted the claims in a scathing social media statement. She stated that she and her team had sought permission to use the song for over two years, but Dhanush repeatedly refused, even after numerous requests. She further explained that the scenes featuring the song were filmed on a mobile phone and argued that the use did not warrant such legal action.
Nayanthara’s statement also criticized Dhanush’s character, stating that the legal notice highlights a hypocrisy given his public pronouncements on principles. She asserted that she would respond to the legal notice through appropriate legal channels. Several directors and even superstar Rajinikanth have reportedly voiced their support for Nayanthara.
As of yet, Dhanush hasn’t publicly responded to Nayanthara’s counter-statement. The legal dispute continues to dominate headlines in the South Indian film industry.
