Fri Nov 15 09:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Kanhaiya Kumar Takes Aim at Leaders Over ‘Saving Religion’ Rhetoric in Maharashtra Campaign
**Nagpur, Maharashtra:** Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar has sparked controversy during the Maharashtra Assembly elections by questioning the sincerity of politicians who claim to be fighting for religion. Addressing a rally for a Congress candidate in Nagpur South West constituency, Kumar questioned the hypocrisy of leaders who preach about saving religion while their children study abroad in prestigious institutions.
Kumar’s speech, which has gone viral on social media, challenges the narrative of certain political parties who often leverage religious sentiments for political gains. He questioned, “If anyone claims to be fighting for religion, ask them a simple question: Are your children also involved in this ‘holy war’ or will they be studying in Oxford and Cambridge while we fight for the faith?”
He further added, “If saving religion is the agenda, then everyone must participate, not just the common people. Will the leaders’ children join the fight or will their wives be making reels on Instagram?”
Although Kumar did not name any particular leader or party, his remarks are seen as a direct attack on the BJP and its ideology, which has often been accused of using religion to garner political support.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are witnessing a fierce battle between the BJP-led Mahayuati alliance and the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. The state’s 288 assembly seats will go to polls on November 20th, with results expected on November 23rd. Kumar’s comments have added another layer to the already heated political campaign.
