Fri Nov 15 12:08:53 UTC 2024: ## UPPSC Agrees to Single-Day PCS Exam, Postpones RO/ARO Exams Amidst Protests
**Prayagraj, November 14, 2024:** Following four days of protests by aspirants, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has agreed to conduct the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) preliminary exam on a single day, reverting to the old pattern. However, the commission has postponed the Review Officer (RO)/Assistant Review Officer (ARO) exams while forming a committee to investigate demands for a single-shift exam.
The decision comes after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath intervened, directing the UPPSC to engage with protesting students and take appropriate action. “Acknowledging concerns of students, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the UPPSC to engage in dialogue with the students and take appropriate action,” said Public Service Commission Secretary Ashok Kumar.
While the single-day PCS exam has been welcomed by aspirants, many remain unsatisfied with the postponement of the RO/ARO exams and the lack of a clear decision on their single-shift demand. “The government must also announce single shift for the RO/ARO exam, the partial decision is not satisfying for us,” said Avinash Singh, an aspirant.
The opposition has criticized the government’s decision, accusing it of a divide and rule tactic. Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav questioned the government’s logic in accepting the demand for single-shift PCS exams but not for RO/ARO exams, while the Congress labeled it a “divide and rule policy.”
The UPPSC will now form a committee to study the demands for a single-shift RO/ARO exam and submit a report soon, ensuring transparency and fairness in the selection process.
