**Hunsur, November 15, 2024:** Tribal communities in Hunsur celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagawan Birsa Munda on Friday, using the occasion to reiterate their demand for the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA) and rehabilitation measures.

The event, held at the Basaveshwara temple in Mantahalli forests, brought together tribal leaders from Veeranahosahalli, H.D.Kote, and other regions. They highlighted Birsa Munda’s legacy as a freedom fighter who united his community, drawing parallels to their current struggle for recognition and rights.

Kolavige Jayappa, president of the Budakattu Krishikara Sangha, emphasized the importance of Munda’s fight against the British, stating that it serves as inspiration for their ongoing struggle for rehabilitation.

Tribal representatives urged authorities to implement the FRA provisions and approve the applications filed by tribals seeking benefits under the Act. They pointed out that many applications, including 12,000 rejected ones, were filed before. They cited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent promise to address their grievances during his visit to Kerehadi in H.D. Kote, urging officials to ensure these promises are fulfilled.

Sreekanth, representing Development through Education, highlighted the ongoing nature of Birsa Munda’s fight for forest rights, even in the present day. He stressed the potential for tribal communities to become partners in forest protection, provided the government recognizes their rights and approves the FRA benefits.

The celebration also included participation by students and staff of the Veeranahosahalli Ashram School, further solidifying the importance of the occasion for the local tribal communities.
