**Kolkata, November 15, 2024:** West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the formation of a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to investigate a fraud involving the diversion of government funds meant for student tablets and mobile phones.
The scheme aimed to provide ₹10,000 to each higher secondary and class 10 student in government schools for the purchase of a device. However, numerous students reported not receiving the funds, prompting the investigation.
“Our administration is very strong,” Banerjee stated, highlighting the arrest of six individuals linked to the alleged fraud. “The group involved is from Maharashtra and Rajasthan, and such groups exist in almost all other states,” she added.
The government has begun distributing the funds to those who were initially denied access. The SIT, with its focus on the alleged fraud, is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of the program.
