**Zhuhai, China** – Despite facing Western sanctions and production limitations, Russia has continued to deliver new batches of advanced fighter jets to its Aerospace Forces. The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), a subsidiary of the state-owned Rostec, announced the delivery of both Sukhoi Su-57 (NATO reporting name Felon) and Su-35S (NATO reporting name Flanker-M) fighter aircraft.
While the exact number of jets delivered remains undisclosed, the aircraft have undergone factory trials and are being deployed to airfields. UAC CEO Vadim Badekha confirmed that more deliveries of both the fifth-generation Su-57 and the 4++ generation Su-35S are scheduled for the end of the year.
The delivery comes amidst Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, where it has faced significant losses of aircraft, particularly the Su-35S. The Kremlin has been struggling to replace these losses due to sanctions and production limitations, leading to concerns about the effectiveness of its air power.
Despite the challenges, Russia has highlighted its fifth-generation fighter, the Su-57, at the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai. The jet, which is being showcased as an export model, has received mixed reactions with some comparing it unfavorably to China’s own J-20 Mighty Dragon.
The Kremlin faces a difficult decision regarding the deployment of the Su-57 in Ukraine. While it has shown reluctance to risk its prized fifth-generation fighter, the ongoing losses of other aircraft may necessitate their deployment.
The delivery of these new fighter jets highlights Russia’s continued efforts to maintain its military capabilities despite significant challenges. However, the ongoing war in Ukraine and the limitations on aircraft production raise questions about the long-term effectiveness of Russia’s air power.
